Is There a Free AI Receptionist? Free Plans, Trials and Demos Checked
Yes, there is a free AI receptionist, but only one of the 7 I checked on October 20, 2026 is free forever: Smith.ai's $0 plan with 25 calls a month. Dialzara, Rosie, My AI Front Desk and NextPhone offer 7-day free trials, Goodcall offers a free demo agent until you connect a number, and Synthflow has no free option.
How I checked: I read each vendor's official pricing page on that date and used only what it showed. I haven't tested these tools hands-on, and I don't rate or rank them.
Free forever vs free trial vs free demo: what "free" means
- Free forever: a $0 plan that keeps going with a monthly allowance. Only Smith.ai has one.
- Free trial: time-limited access to a paid plan. Dialzara, Rosie, My AI Front Desk and NextPhone each offer 7 days.
- Free demo: you build and test an agent free and pay once it goes live on a number. That's Goodcall.

The only free-forever AI receptionist: Smith.ai
Smith.ai's Free plan is $0 a month for 25 calls, plus 25 test calls and 50 simulated calls. It includes 24/7 answering, Quality Studio, recordings, transcripts and summaries, lead qualification, scheduling and integrations (Clio, Zapier).
The catch is in the rules. Per the Terms, the free calls reset on your sign-up anniversary, don't roll over, have no cash value and are lost if you cancel. Smith.ai gives 30 days' notice of material Free Plan changes. After 25 calls, each call costs $3.00 from a prepaid Account Wallet (Auto-Reload is optional). If the balance is below the per-call floor, the call isn't answered and goes to voicemail or a message. Known spam from 20M+ numbers is blocked and not counted. The next step up is Pro at $150 a month for 75 calls, with extra calls at $2.50.

AI receptionists with a 7-day free trial
Dialzara
7-day trial; there's no free plan, and the page doesn't say whether a card is needed. When minutes run low, Dialzara emails you at 15 minutes left, and you can turn on auto-recharge or buy minutes, which don't expire. "If it hits zero, callers go straight to voicemail." The cheapest paid step is Business Lite at $29 a month for 60 minutes, then $0.48 a minute, with no setup fees and no contract.
Rosie
7-day trial, "No credit card required to start," and "Cancel anytime." I couldn't confirm what happens after the trial or the overage rate, because those FAQ answers didn't load on the pricing page. The cheapest paid step is Professional at $49 a month for 250 minutes; paying yearly gets 2 months free.
My AI Front Desk
7-day trial on Business-in-a-Box, "No credit card required." The page says trial usage depends on the plan you choose and links to separate trial terms, which I didn't check. On the paid plan, usage beyond the included amounts comes from a 1,000-credit monthly pool (voice is 25 credits a minute, about $0.25), and auto-reload is $10 per 1,000 credits. The cheapest paid step is $99 a month, or $79 a month billed annually, with 200 voice minutes.
NextPhone
7-day trial on Pro: "Cancel before it ends and you're not charged." It also offers a free personalized test call (you enter your website) and a live demo. The page doesn't say whether a card is needed. After the trial, Pro is billed at $199 a month, or $1,990 a year. Every plan has unlimited calls with no overage, so there's no point where usage runs out. No setup fee.
Free demo: Goodcall
Goodcall doesn't offer a trial or a free live plan. In its words: "Better: a free demo agent. Build it, test it, hear it answer, and only pay when you connect a number." Test runs can be topped up at $5. The cheapest paid step is Starter at $79 a month for 100 unique callers, then $0.79 each.
No free option: Synthflow
Synthflow sells enterprise contracts from $30,000 a year, and its pricing page shows no trial or free plan.
